MY PERIOD IS LATE, BUT WHEN I HAVE SEX I BLEED BUT ONLY UNTIL I AM DONE AND THEN IT STOPS WHY?

	I AM LATE WITH MY MENSTERAL PERIOD BY ABOUT A WEEK, I WAS HAVING CRAMPS BUT STILL NO BLEEDING CAME. I HAD SEX YEATERDAY AND I BLEED DURING INTERCOURSE, BUT IT NEVER CONTINUED AFTERWARDS. WHAT WOULD BE THE CAUSE OF THIS IS MY QUESTION, SHOULD I BE WORRIED?

	Answer by Dr Noopur S, MD (doctor) on Mon 11, Aug 2008 06:15am: Hi, How are you? I would suggest you to do a home pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy as a cause of missed period. The bleeding after intercourse could not have been your normal period bleeding as it did not continue afterwards. It could have been cervical bleeding which can occur in early pregnancy due to thinning and increased vascularization of cervix. Please consult your OBGYN at your earliest. Take care!
