Lower back pain, how to ask doctor for more relief

Asked by Unregistered on Thu 01, May 2008 11:29pm :

I have bad back pain. I had an MRI and it came back negative. My doctor prescribed vicodin 5/500 but it is not helping much. I have to take 2 to get even mild help. Will my doctor up the does without making me feel like an addict. He ordered me to physical therapy but that is not doing much either. How should I approach this?

Hi there. You didn’t mention the details of your back ache. I mean, its mode of onset i.e. acute or gradual, are there any motor or sensory symptoms associated with? Is bladder & bowel regular? If pain worse on movement & relieved by rest is often mechanical. If it is worse after rest than inflammatory cause should be considered. Using vicodin may lead to addiction.Which is under trail. Maximum permitted is 8 tablets/day. I advise you to take consultation with general physician & orthopedician for further management. Hope my advise is helpful to you. Take care.
