I feel like there is something blocking my throat, making it hard for me to breathe. I can breathe through my nose fine. Also, if I breathe in too deep, it causes me to cough uncontrolably, accompanied with wheezing. What could this be???

Answer by Dr Juri Sharma  on Tue 29, Mar 2011 01:32am:

Hi, this symptom could be due to panic attacks/anxiety, hiatus hernia, obesity, allergies (dust/pollen), respiratory diseases like COPD, bronchiolitis, pneumonia, epiglottitis or heart problems like angina or arrhythmia. You should visit a Physician for a diagnosis. The diagnosis is based on history, physical check up and tests like blood test (arterial blood gases), X ray of chest, pulmonary function test, ECG or echocardiogram. The treatment depends on the cause. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
