Hole at base of spine

Asked by rbailes051987 (Male; 22; Nothing really relevant to the area. ) on Sat 09, Jan 2010 11:47pm

Hello, I have a small hole at the base of my spine that is currently leaking blood and some form of puss. It looks just like a sacral dimple, but I am not sure if it is the same thing. I first noticed the leaking after working 8 hour days sitting in the same seat the entire time. There is some pain involed when I am sitting in a certain way. I'm not sure if this matters but I am a 22 year old male at about 6'3" 225lb. I plan on visiting the doctor some time this week, I just wanted to know more about it before I went in. Any insight you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi, The description given by you makes me feel two probabilities namely Pilonidal disease or abnormalities of spinal bone. Pilonidal disease is a skin infection of hair follicle which is generally in the crack of buttocks where poor hygiene, obesity or prolonged sitting or buttock friction can cause sweating and infection of this region and a fistula is formed which produce pus due to shaphylococcal infection. Other possibility of spinal deformation needs an ultrasound to rule out. Hope this information helps.
