Hello, I have a question in regards to My ears. Well about two days ago, I was sleeping and all of a sudden I felt something go into my ear and it woke me up. I know for a fact that it was a bug because I saw another one crawling when I woke up. it was one of those little black bugs with the hard shell of a body(Maybe a little smaller than a match head)But anyway, I immediately ran to the washroom and used the Syringe Bulb to put water down my ear to try and get it out. The water was Kind of hot, nothing came out but water of course, so then I put some earwax removal but it burned so I put more water. My question is, What will or what has happened to the bug in my ear, Will it dissolve, Do I have any thing to worry about, I'm really nervous(although it's two days later and feel nothing moving around) I'm still a little paranoid. Can you please help me with any advice. Thank You!

Answer by Dr Paul S, MD (doctor) on Fri 02, May 2008 10:30pm:

Hi there. If there has been no movement for two days then it seems that the bug may have already left the ear or died inside the ear canal. However, I suggest you have your ears checked by a doctor (using an otoscope) to see objectively if any damage has been done or if any part of the bug remains. Some possible damage include inflammation of the ear canal with or without infection or irritation of the ear drum. The next time this happens, some would advocate the use of baby oil to disable the bug and facilitate the removal, though I also suggest you ask your doctor about this. Regards.
