Hives may present with itching and swelling of the surface of the skin into wheals with clearly defined edges.
These may enlarge and and form larger areas of flat, raised skin that turns white (blanches) when you press
the center. Hives may be attributed to a lot of causes, but the same mechanism exists. In response to a
certain trigger, histamine and other chemicals are released into the bloodstream, causing the symptoms
mentioned. Hives are generally harmless and eventually disappear on its own.
