Asked by Unregistered (Male; 42; USA; I have high blood pressure. I've had inguinal hernia surgery at the of 12 years old.I was born with an
inguinal hernia in 1966 and in 1978 twelve years later i had hernia surgery in my right groin.And also i've
had chronic microscopic hematuria for seven years and i still have it today .I don't know what caused it.;

Does hypertension[high blood pressure] cause chronic microscopic hematuria.I wan't to know because i 've had high blood pressure for 21 years now and i've been taking labetalol tablets for 21 years now for my high blood pressure . Does labetalol tablets for high blood pressure cause chronic microscopic hematuria . I wan't to know because i read about labetalol tablets and i read about the side effects they cause it said that labetalol cause easy bruising and ashma symptoms and bleeding.Do you think that the labetalol tablets that i have been taking for 21 years for my high blood could have caused my chronic microscopic hematuria.

Hi, Thanks for writing in. Microscopic hematuria is seen in patient with hypertension especially when there is kidney damage.Glomerulonephritis can occur in long standing hypertension which is manifested as microscopic hematuria. This usually indicates a chronic kidney disease. I would suggest you to get a urological evaluation done to rule out kidney diseases. Let us know if you need more information.
