Hi,
Thank you for posting. It is good that you are having a healthy lifestyle: You lost weight, controlled your
diet and have a daily exercise regimen. Type 2 diabetes is a lifelong disease marked by high levels of sugar
in the blood. It begins when the body does not respond correctly to insulin, a hormone released by the
pancreas. The immediate goal of treatment is to lower high blood glucose levels. The long-term goals of
treatment are to prevent diabetes-related complications, such as:amputation of limbs, blindness, heart disease
or kidney failure. The primary treatment for type 2 diabetes is exercise and diet. Medications are given to
help maintain normal or near-normal blood glucose levels. Biguanides or Metformin tell the liver to decrease
its production of glucose. This decreases glucose levels in the bloodstream. Glipizide belongs to the oral
sulfonylureas trigger the pancreas to make more insulin. While Actos or piolgitazone help insulin work better
at the cell site. Studies show that there are no long term effects seen, though some increases the risks for
heart problems. However, if you can control your glucose with diet and exercise, you may discuss this with
your doctor. Some diabetics can control their blood glucose levels when they reach their ideal weight.
Regular follow-up is highly recommended.
Take care and regards.
