Crackling sounds when exhale and lying down

Asked by kristi00 (Female; 38; venous Angioma on the brain hysterectomy ) on Sun 17, Jan 2010 12:46pm

I developed a cough, and within a few days, I began to notice a crackling sound when I exhale. I did not have any sinus symptoms, or sore throat or fever. My cough is beginning to get better, but the crackling sound is still there. There was a slight amount of mucus with the cough, as to the color I do not know. But there was not always mucus with the cough, and still the crackling sound remains. Also, I've had a terrible headache over the last few days. What could be the cause?

Answer by Dr Vinod, MBBS,FcGP  on Mon 18, Jan 2010 04:30pm:

Hello kristi00, When you have lower respiratory tract infections you can have sounds like rhonchi and crepitations. If this is just upper respiratory tract infections and respiratory exhalation sounds with some amount of nose block there is nothing to worry. Ask your physician to examine your chest and rule out lower respiratory tract infections. Take symptomatic treatment, cough syrups and rest. Take care!
