I received oral sex from someone with strep throat *they were on antibiotics at the time but had not finished their
prescription yet). I was fine for about a week when I had intercourse again and my vagina was very sensitive to the
friction. A few days later, it was very red, and itchy. After about a week this went away. I attempted having sex after
and again felt only a slight discomfort with the friction. Then about a week later, as my period began, my vagina seemed to
get red and itchy on its own.
I've looked up the symptoms of HSV and realize they fit. I've also seen a gynecologist who must have thought I was
imagining it because didn't see any lesions on my vagina where I was feeling pain and said that my glands weren't
swollen, which typically occurs when someone is having an outbreak. She used a cotton swab to run a test for HSV, but said
that I should be fine and to call her if symptoms persist so I can get a blood test )because the swab test isn't always
accurate).
My question is, could my irritation be from the strep throat or is that not possible?
I plan on getting a blood test soon but am currently laid up from having my wisdom teeth removed. The though of not having
official HSV results for 2 weeks is driving me crazy so any input you could give would be great!
*Also, I attempted to treat it as a yeast infection already but didn't respond at all so I'm assuming its not a
yeast infection. I do not have gray discharge associated with BV, as far as I can tell, my discharge is not out of the
ordinary.*
