Answer by Dr Bobby V, MD (doctor) on Sun 16, Mar 2008 08:48am:

Hi, You are a young adult with bloating, abdominal discomfort, tenesmus, lower back cramps, and early satiety. Should you see a doctor for this? Yes. Can this be cancer? Unlikely. There are many other causes that need to be ruled out before considering cancer. Your internist may like to examine you and check if any organs (example spleen) are enlarged and pressing your stomach to cause your symptoms. He or she may also like to run some routine blood tests (complete blood counts, renal and liver function tests), ultrasound of the abdomen, stool examination for worms and fat malabsorption, and breath tests for Helicobacter pylori. You may also like to consult a gynecologist for ruling out pelvic inflammatory disease causing your abdominal/lower back cramps. Can cancer present with similar symptoms? This is unlikely in an otherwise young healthy young female without fever, weight loss, or specific findings. In rare cases, CML (chromic myeloid leukemia) may present with similar symptoms.
