Boyfriend has genital warts, did he cheat on me? do I have it now? Should I avoid oral sex from now on?

	My boyfriend came home from the doctor and told me that he was told he had genital warts. He told me that the doctor said he could have contracted this years ago, but not seeing the symptoms until now. I don't believe that he would cheat on me, but I guess I am looking for some reassurance. Also, should I assume that I have it now as well? And, should I avoid oral sex with him even though the wart was not actually on his penis (it was located on the groin region above the genitals)?

	Answer by Dr.Rohit Agarwal (doctor) on Mon 24, Aug 2009 11:50pm: Hello, Genital warts or Condyloma is a highly contagious sexually transmitted infection caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). It is spread through direct skin-to-skin contact during oral, genital, or anal sex with an infected partner. It takes at least 90 days for symptoms to appear. There is vaccine for it (Gardasil). They can be removed by liquid nitrogen, applying podophyllin and podofilox. Ideally one should avoid sex till they are treated or preventive measures are taken like vaccine. Consult your Physician.
