5 year survival rate / 5 year recurrance rate - Are these figures from the time of first diagnosis?

	From what date are these figured from, the time you were fist diagnosed with cancer, the first time you started chemo, or the last day you finished chemo?

	Answer by Dr Heinrik M, MD (doctor) on Mon 24, Mar 2008 06:55pm: The time is taken to mean from the date of diagnosis. Those who undergo surgery would have a preoperative cancer diagnosis, but if a curative surgery was done – the diagnosis becomes final (since there is more evidence of disease extent, staging is completed with the surgical specimen) once the pathology report comes out. Hence, for the surgical candidates, this is usually after surgery.
